Thank you for your interest in the
NV Patriots.
Current league regulations prohibit
any team from recruiting players in the middle of the
season. As such, the NV Patriots organization does not
actively seek any player from any team registered within
the GBYSL league.
The league mandates that recruiting
not be done until the season is over and only in the
dates allowed. At the end of the spring season, all players are considered
"free" as they do not belong to any team or club and
do NOT need a "Player
Action" form.
For the tryouts at the end of
the Fall season, players are required to inform their
fall coaches and get a release signature in the "Player
Action" form if they want to tryout for other
teams.
If you would like to be considered for
the team, please
fill in the form in the contact
us page. Your information will be confidential. |

About our Tryouts for the Spring 2010. |
- All players that meet the age
requirements are invited to tryout for the Nevada
Patriots. See the birth dates in the Q & A section
below!
- We will be conducting Fall 2010 tryout sessions:
- Session
1, TBD
Tryout Open to All. Players will be
assessed on Technical level, physical
conditioning, attitude, character and
commitment.
- Individual
Sessions. For any player
whishing to be considered for the team that can
not attend our two tryout dates. Please contact
John Chavez directly at 775 690 0949.
- What to Bring:
Soccer Shoes, Shin-guards, Water & Sports Drink,
Ball, Appropriate clothing for playing in cold and
wet weather (gloves and hat).
- Our tryouts are designed in this
format to allow players to have a good chance to be
considered and evaluated. We understand that it is
extremely hard to evaluate a player on just 1 short
session. We also know that every player is not at
the top of their game all the time.
- Our goal is to assemble a truly
competitive team that has a chance to be competitive
at the State Level and division 1 in California.
(Competitive means to NOT be slaughtered by Division
one teams but to have fairly even matches where
either team could win) This goal
requires players to commit to learn the game at a
higher level, and to understand the responsibility
that must be given to the team.
- Players that want to participate
in other sports during the height of the soccer
seasons or that cannot commit to the effort and time
demands, should consider a different level of soccer
or another team where the training demands will not
be in conflict.

Here are some Q's & A's
that may answer some of the questions you may have. |
|
|
|
Q: Who coaches the team? |
A: The team is coached by
John Chavez and
Quin Rescigno. Both D licensed coaches.
|
|
Q: Where does the team practice? |
A: The team practices most of the time at
Brown Elementary School in south Reno although it may
change from season to season.
|
|
Q: What age is the team or what
division is the team playing on? |
A: As of the spring 2010, the NV Patriots
will be playing as a U13 girls team with players born
after August 1 1996 and before July 31 1997. Some U12
players born between August 1 1997 and July 31 1998
(U12) will be considered if they have the physical and
mental capabilities to play with the U13 age group.
|
|
Q: What is your win-loss record and
how many tournaments have you won? |
A: If you are asking this question, you
are not the type of parent we want to have for one of
our players. We measure success by a higher standard
than what prompted you to ask this question. Plus, you
probably have not read the information on this site
carefully.
|
|
Q: How much does it cost? |
A: Playing for the NV Patriots in the
spring 2010 requires the league fee, 3 to 4
tournaments, Club Fees, for a
total of about $300 to $350. Uniforms and warm ups are extra
(Around $60 for the uniform with home and away jerseys
and around $65 for the warm up pants and jacket).
Spring 2010 Uniforms will be the same as the fall 09 so
only new players will need new uniforms.
|
|
Q: How much is it for coaching? |
A: Our Coaching is "Priceless!" We do not charge coaching fees,
even though the licensing we hold, experience and the
proven growth of our committed players more than justifies for us to
charge. Bottom line is, the coaching we provide has been
proven to work with different players, teams, and ages,
especially when compared with other clubs and teams that
charge (an arm and a leg) for coaching and continue to provide minimal
knowledge to their players.
|
|
Q: How often do you practice? |
A: We typically hold 3 practices of 2
hours each (give or take) every week. Practices decrease
as league games and tournament games are scheduled. If
you cannot commit to attending at least 75% average of
the
practices and games, then perhaps our
competitive team is not the team for your child.
Recreational teams require minimal commitment and
provide ample opportunities of play time to rec. level
players. See the "Calendar"
page for the preliminary schedule"
|
|
Q: How much is my daughter going to
play for the cost of being on the team? |
|
A: As much time as she is physically,
technically, and mentally able to do to continue her
development and help the team perform at its best. It is
also based on a reward system of attendance to practices
and games as well as willingness from the child to
continue to learn and apply the instruction given. Most
of the players on the team that continue to grow will
see more game time than those players that fall behind
(regardless of the circumstances). |
|
|
|
Q: Is my child guaranteed to play with
the team in the Fall 2010 if she makes the Spring team? |
|
A: The league has a "one year" season
divided by the fall and the spring. A child playing in
the fall with a team is part of the spring roster.
However, a player wishing to change teams can tryout for
other teams after the fall season is over so long as
their current coach is notified and a "Player
Action" form
is signed by the current coach.
So the short answer is NO, at the end of the spring
season, all players must attend the tryouts if they want
to stay on the team. |
|
|
|
Q: Aren't you asking too much from
players and their parents to be on the team? |
|
A: NO, this team is not for everyone, we
are direct in our expectations so that our players and
parents are informed of what is expected. This is NOT a
recreational team or a "SOCIAL" club. We set definite
goals, we plan our work and we work our plan. We believe
that in order to achieve success we must know what we
are aiming for and work towards its achievement. That is
what we teach our players. We realize there are
different points of view for coaching, we just choose to
work under the premises of Goal Setting, Commitment,
Responsibility, Work Ethic, Respect, Effort and Fun. |

Great Basin Youth Soccer League (GBYSL) and the NV
PATRIOTS, strongly encourage ALL young athletes
attending competitive soccer tryouts, to actively
participate in different club or team tryouts. So that
they may fully understand the training program or
benefits that each team or club may offer to them.
Participating in any soccer clubs or independent team
tryouts does not register you to play, nor binds you to
that particular club or team. For information on clubs
and teams in Northern Nevada, visit www.GBYSL.org |
